Gladstone Regional Council install LED Solar Lights at Harvey Road Car Park
In a bid to help reduce Council's carbon footprint, 12 x TPM 160W 3Q LED solar street lights were recently installed at the Harvey Road car park, adjacent to the touch and junior rugby league fields.
The energy efficient lighting will make the heavily-used car park safer for its many users.
Infrastructure Services portfolio spokesperson Councillor Matt Burnett said Council was looking at every opportunity to use green initiatives as every little bit helps.
"The installation of the solar-powered lights is about meeting our community's expectations and helping the environment," Cr Burnett said.
"Solar energy also saves on power costs and was approximately 8 per cent less expensive to purchase and install.
"The lights are cost and energy efficient with a battery life warranty of 5 years, LED light expectancy of 17 years and the solar panel a 20 year guarantee."
Sol Inc., the leading global provider of solar LED outdoor lighting solutions, supported Rechenberg in supplying 12 ‘shoebox’ style high-intensity solar powered LED parking lot lights at the Harvey Road car park, adjacent to the Touch Football and Junior Rugby League fields in Gladstone, QLD.
LED Solar was chosen for its long term energy efficiency and direct savings from reduced installation costs.
Based on the number of lights installed, Gladstone Regional Council estimate an upfront saving of 8% or $12,000 on supply and installation costs compared to grid connection which requires extensive civil works by way of supply and installation of conduits and cabling. Further savings of approximately $3,600 per year are expected as a result of grid consumption cost savings
Solar foundations were installed over two days, the poles themselves taking two days to fit out and install, at the end of which the lights were operational that same night.
Gladstone Regional Council have been very pleased with the results, with minimal light spillage and the light clarity (colour). GRC expect to continue benefiting financially from the solar option with no ongoing power consumption costs. Over the coming years GRC will be in a better position to compare these costs against maintenance costs associated with solar option.

Paul Wickberg, President and CEO of Sol, Inc., is proud that Gladstone Regional Council selected Sol to provide a renewable lighting source for their parking lot, adding, "We will continue to serve our world-wide customers with state-of-the-art solar-powered and energy efficient grid-tie systems that provide energy independence and economic savings."
