How Will The 3G Shutdown Affect Your System?

Your security system includes a cellular network device that it uses to communicate with our control room in the event of an emergency. If your device is currently reliant on 3G networks, it will no longer function when the 3G shutdown takes place in your area.

As a result of the 3G network shutdown, your alarm may appear to continue functioning  but, it will no longer be able to communicate with our control room to notify us if anything happens on your property. Any devices that currently use 3G will no longer have network functionality and will need to update their systems network device to 4G to avoid any potential disruptions. Although wireless carriers have stated the 3G network will not be shutdown until 2024, this does not guarantee 3G services will be fully available until the shutdown, Your area may be affected before this date. It is common practice for carriers to reduce coverage during transition periods by upgrading their cellular towers to support 4G networks. The 3G cellular network is being shutdown.  Any device that relies on the 3G network will not be able to send or receive any alerts after it loses its connection.

Why Upgrade Now?

Upgrading early guarantees you access to a 4G network device and avoids delays in installation that can cost you valuable downtime if you wait until your system loses connection.

The 3G network will not be completely shutdown until June 2024. Prior to that date, the 3G network will be upgrading any failing 3G network towers rather than repairing them.

If this happens you may find your 3G network connection has disappeared without notice if a tower goes down in your area. Without this connection your security devices won’t be able to send out alerts to you or our control room. This is why we recommend upgrading to a 4G system as soon as possible.

 

 

Do I have to replace my entire system?

No, you won’t have to replace your entire system.

In most cases it is only a network device that needs to be replaced with a 4G version. The rest of your system should be able to resume normal operation after this upgrade. However depending on the age and type of system you have installed additional components may be required.

 

 

How do I know if I need to upgrade?

If you received an email from Rechenberg about your 3G connection you most likely have a 3G connection device in your system that will require upgrading.

Can I upgrade my 3G home security system myself?

What happens If I don't upgrade?

If you choose not to upgrade your device to 4G, when the 3G network fails or is shutdown in your area your device will no longer be able to send out any alerts to you or our control room when you need help leaving you at risk.
