NATIONAL SECURITY OFFICERS APPRECIATION DAY

Security officers keep you safe and secure. You may find them providing patrol services, crowd management, security checking, or even installing and monitoring security systems. They all have one thing in common, their job is to keep you safe.

International Security Officer’s Day is on July 24th. We hope you will join us in appreciating over 120,000 security personnel employed across Australia.

What is International Security Officer’s Day?

The Australian Security Industry Association created International Security Officer’s Day to raise awareness for the security profession and show it’s appreciation for security officers who devote their working life safeguarding us and our property.

This security initiative is being recognised by more governments and countries all around the world. It is celebrated on July 24th to represent the 24-hour nature of the security business.

International Security Officers day is a day to educate yourself about the struggles of security professionals who may be exposed to physical and mental abuse while working. We can show our appreciation for security officers in a few simple ways.

Be courteous & obey the rules

Security professionals are often the bearer of bad news and don’t deserve abuse because you have broken the rules, caused a disturbance or are receiving bad news.

It never feels good to be told no and it’s easy to see them as spoiling your fun. Keep in mind that they only enforce the rules so everyone, including you can have a safe and enjoyable time. Rules vary from venue to venue and can usually be found posted on the venue wall or website and are worth reading before visiting.

Have some sympathy and respect for their position. It doesn’t matter if you are talking to them in person or over the phone, a calm and polite demeanor goes a long way to having a positive interaction with security personnel since they often work long 10 or 12 hours shifts. Most security officers are happy to compromise with you if you remain calm and respectful.

Ask for Assistance or Information

The primary goal of a Security Officer is to provide excellent customer service. By asking them questions you can clarify what is allowed or what they can do to help you in situations where you may need their help.

They know a lot more than you think and can usually direct you to where you need to go or offer information about the venue or rules.

Most security personnel are trained in first aid and can assist in an emergency situation. So whether you need to know where the bathroom is or you need help with an unruly patron you can ask your friendly security officer for help.

Say Thank you.

Thank a security professional if you encounter one on International Security Officers Day. They work tirelessly to keep you and your property safe. You never know when you’ll need their help.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a security guard, bouncer or from your security monitoring service. International security officer’s day is a great way to show your appreciation for this profession that often goes unnoticed.
