How intruders disable alarm and cctv system

In today’s world, security is more important than ever.

Whether it’s protecting data online, keeping phone scammers from getting personal information, or keeping your physical person, home, and business safe, the threats out in the world are very real.

Modern intruders can actually be quite clever and have an array of skills and tools to take on even modern alarm systems.

Because of this, it’s even more important than ever to have an excellent alarm system to keep you, your home, and your business secure.

So how do they do it? How do modern intruders go about defeating modern security?

Read on so that you’ll know what to look for in your neighbourhood and how to recognise anyone looking suspicious.

Tackling CCTV Systems

While there are a lot of things to like about a CCTV system, there are some inherent weaknesses with them.

If set-up correctly, your CCTV system will have a view of the desired area with as little blind spots as possible.

However, if your CCTV system was not installed by a professional, your camera may have many blind spots.

These blind spots provide intruders with a way to disable or vandalise the cameras.

From hitting them with rocks to using spray paint on the lens, or simply moving the camera from the back to change the angle, there are plenty of options for resourceful intruders.

Smart placement of cameras that create some overlap or protect them from easy sabotage makes a big difference.

Most cameras now offer an IK rating that describes the degree of resistance of vandalism through impact.

Additionally, a variety of cameras now offer tamper detection.

With tamper detection, you will be notified if the camera has been physically hit or moved, vandalised, the camera focus or view is obscured, or if someone attempts to cut the power.

If the cameras are wireless, some steps need to be taken to protect the radio signal that the system is working on.

Disabling Alarm Panel

If an experienced and skilled intruder can find the control panel, chances are it will only take five to ten seconds for them to disable it.

The alarm goes off right away, but for most systems, they need to go off for over 30 seconds before it can communicate to the 24-hour Control Room.

This means if a burglar or home intruder kicks in the door and can quickly find the control panel (which most are in very obvious locations), there’s a good chance they can disable the alarm before the Control Room gets notified.

This is where it’s vital that your alarm system is installed to Australian Standard 2201, which states that the control panel must be covered by a detection device.

This greatly reduces the chance of an intruder bypassing the system.

Hacking Issues

Technology can make life much easier, however, there are plenty of threats that come with that, as well.

Systems can be hacked, whether wired in a building or using wireless equipment.

Having strong passwords is crucial, as are safety measures like firewalls and security software.

While it might not be possible to prevent 100% of hacking attacks, taking a few basic steps can go a long way to keeping most skilled hackers at bay.

Radio Jamming

Many security systems work on a closed radio signal loop.

This is an incredibly efficient way to set up a system using multiple technologies, but it also opens up the door for signal jamming.

This is effective against low-end and low-quality wireless systems and in some cases doesn’t need special equipment or even a high-level skill-set.

However, this is a way some very determined intruders could potentially get around even a relatively modern security system.

The good news is that our professionals are always on the cutting edge of the world of security, where they are frequently adapting to be one step ahead of any intruder.
